What does an allergologist do?

This specialist is competent to, among other things:

What causes allergy and when to see an allergologist?
You should see an allergologist if you suspect the presence of an allergy, that is, an abnormal (excessive) reaction of the immune system to contact with a sensitizing agent (known as an allergen).
Allergens are very different - they can be of plant or animal origin, as well as being simple chemical compounds. Allergens include pollen, house dust mites, metals (e.g. nickel), latex, food products (e.g. cow's milk, nuts), hymenopterous insect venom, cosmetics and some medications.
Based on the route of contact between the allergen and the body, inhalation (inhalation) allergens, food allergens and contact allergens are distinguished.
Symptoms of allergy
Allergy can manifest itself in many ways, such as:
- a runny nose combined with watery eyes and troublesome sneezing, allergic cough, scratchy throat (inhalant allergens);
- allergic rashes, including itching, burning skin and hives (contact allergens);
- persistent diarrhea, shortness of breath, migraines, lethargy and inflammation of the digestive system (food allergens).
Scope of the visit
A patient presenting to an allergologist can expect:
- assistance in determining the causative agent of the allergy;
- referral for necessary examinations (skin tests, serological examinations or various types of exposure tests) and discussion of their results;
- planning comprehensive treatment;
- education on proper nutrition and hygiene;
- assistance in relieving nagging symptoms.

- A visit to an allergologist does not require special preparation. You should bring with you an identity document and the results of examinations relevant to the doctor, if any.

Allergologist - telemedicine consultation
A telemedicine consultation can be used by any patient, regardless of location and previous medical history.
During the telephone consultation, the doctor will complete any services that are remotely possible. However, during the course of the medical interview, it may turn out that an in-patient visit is necessary, without which a correct diagnosis and treatment selection cannot be made.
The specialist will try to connect with the patient three times.
