The OCT examination is indispensable in the diagnosis of retinal diseases (particularly important in the diagnosis of lesions within the fundus, the so-called macula). It involves scanning a given area of the eye using an optical beam. The test allows you to accurately assess individual parts of the retina and optic nerve for lesions, often invisible with a standard eye examination.
OCT may be performed repeatedly. It is safe for pregnant women. It is a safe and completely non-invasive test. The test is performed on patients over 5 years of age.
Indications for OCT:
- age-related macular degeneration (AMD),
- diabetic maculopathy,
- macular oedema of a different origin,
- hole in the macula,
- pre-macular fibrosis,
- central serous retinopathy,
- monitoring glaucoma changes,
- epithelial membranes,
- corneal condition before and after laser vision correction procedures.
Preparation: the patient should bring drops that he uses permanently and a referral if he has one.
Additional information:
- The examination description is available on the same day.
- Examination can be done without pupil dilatation (this is an individual decision by the doctor).
- If drops are administered, you cannot drive a car after the test and your doctor will assess the need for eye drops during the test.
