Laboratory tests

Calcitonin is a polypeptide hormone secreted by thyroid C cells. Calcitonin levels may be increased in patients with chronic renal failure and hyperparathyroidism, leukemia and other less common disorders

A test performed from the blood to determine the beta fraction of chorionic gonadotropin. The beta-HCG concentration is a sign of early pregnancy. Outside of pregnancy, the concentration can be a sign of serious diseases (e.g cancer).
