Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a disease to which both adults and children are exposed. TBE is caused by the Flaviviridae virus – it is most commonly transmitted by the bites of infected ticks. Infection can also occur through the consumption of milk and meat from animals infected with tick-borne encephalitis. Vaccination against TBE does not protect against Lyme disease.
