What are allergic reactions?
Allergic reactions are abnormal reactions of the immune system, which recognizes harmless substances as threatening to the body. They are triggered by antibodies belonging to the IgE class of immunoglobulins. After exposure to specific allergens, the release of histamine and other IgE-mediated mediators from mast cells and basophils causes clinical symptoms such as asthma, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, atopic eczema and gastrointestinal symptoms.
Molecular diagnosis of allergies
Molecular diagnosis of allergy is a method recommended by the Polish Society of Allergology and European and American societies.
Use of molecular (component) diagnostics in the management of a patient with allergic disease?
Component diagnostics is helpful in identifying food hypersensitivity and predicting the risk of anaphylaxis in an individual patient. It allows to create an individual allergic profile, including cross-reactions. The Alex test allows:
- to create an individual allergy profile;
- in inhalant allergy, it helps choose the right immunotherapy;
- in food allergy it serves to assess the risk of anaphylaxis;
- in latex allergy it helps correctly identify truly allergic patients who need to eliminate contact with latex;
- in allergy to hymenopterous insect venom, it is extremely helpful in selecting appropriate specific immunotherapy in distinguishing venom hypersensitivity between, for example, the honeybee and the wasp;
The test result must be consulted with a physician. Do not interpret the results of a diagnostic test for allergic diseases on your own.
