Prof. Mirosław Brykczyński, MD, PhD
Prof. Mirosław Brykczyński – graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Pomeranian Medical Academy in Szczecin.
After completing his studies, he worked in the Surgery Department at the Provincial Hospital in Koszalin. A year later, he started working at the Clinic of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at PAM, one of the leading vascular surgery centers in Poland at the time. He performed surgeries on patients with atherosclerotic arterial occlusions in the limbs.
After three years of work, he became the first in Poland to publish the results of treating acute lower limb ischemia caused by arterial thrombosis, which served as the basis for his doctoral dissertation in 1988, titled "Assessment of the results of fibrinolytic treatment of acute lower limb ischemia caused by arterial thrombosis in the course of atherosclerosis."
In 1987, along with the transformation of the Clinic of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery into the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery, Prof. Brykczyński dedicated himself to cardiac surgery. He completed many internships in national and foreign centers, and as a scholarship holder of the French government, he worked for nine months in the cardiac surgery department in Lyon. He performed the first coronary artery bypass surgeries using both internal mammary arteries (1994), the gastroepiploic artery (1996), and the radial artery (1998), which resulted in scientific papers on the outcomes of surgical treatment of coronary artery disease.
In 2001, he defended his habilitation thesis titled "Evaluation of the impact of roxithromycin treatment on chronic Chlamydia pneumoniae infection in patients undergoing surgery for coronary artery disease."
A member of the State Examination Board. In 2004, he became the regional consultant in the field of cardiac surgery, and since 2005, he has been heading the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery at PUM.
In addition to coronary artery disease treatment, Prof. Brykczyński's interests in cardiac surgery include: surgical treatment of arrhythmias and severe heart failure, reconstructive surgeries of valve defects, and aortic aneurysm surgery.
