What is a cardiac surgeon consultation?

This is a visit with a medical specialist who performs surgical treatment of heart diseases and major blood vessels. During the consultation, the cardiac surgeon analyzes symptoms, reviews medical records, and explains the available treatment options, including indications for surgery and potential risks.

• Adults with congenital heart defects requiring surgical treatment.
• Before a planned cardiac surgery (second opinion, discussion of risks and preparation).
• After heart surgery – to monitor healing, assess outcomes, and review recommendations.

How to prepare

• Bring your existing medical records: hospital discharge summaries, list of medications, allergies.
• Include any recent tests (if available): ECG, echocardiogram (ECHO), coronary angiography/CT/MRI, laboratory results.
• Have your ID and e-referral with you, if applicable.
• Fasting is not required unless instructed otherwise.
• Write down the most important questions you want to discuss during the visit.
