Copper in serum

Serum copper concentration determination is used for diagnosis and treatment:

• deficiency of copper in the body in the course of Wilson's disease, 
• when monitoring treatment with with chelation preparations, 
• in disease Menkes disease, 
• marrhosis liver, 
• proliferative diseases of the hematopoietic system, 

Cause of copper deficiency with normal supply from food - Impaired absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, nephrotic syndrome Nephrotic syndrome, Wilson's disease, Menkes disease. Causes of increase Cu levels: inflammatory conditions, myeloid leukemia, aplastic and megaloblastic.
