Duplex Doppler ultrasound of the cephalic arteries is a non-invasive examination to assess blood vessels and blood flow. The test can detect abnormalities such as narrowing of the arterial lumen caused by atherosclerotic plaque.
Indications for the examination may include:
- tinnitus, balance disorders, vision disturbances;
- dizziness and fainting, recurrent headaches;
- history of transient cerebral ischaemic attack;
- suspected atherosclerosis;
- presence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders).
The duplex doppler ultrasound examination of the cephalic arteries is similar to other ultrasound examinations. The doctor places the head of the device on the lower part of the patient’s neck and moves it towards the mandible, while assessing the image seen on the monitor. This examination is safe and painless.
- The examination requires no special preparation. On the day of the examination, it is advisable to wear an outfit that allows easy exposure of the neck.
- You should bring documentation with you to the examination, such as hospital records and the results of other examinations that may be relevant (if any).
- There are no contraindications to this examination.
- The duration of the examination is approximately 15-20 minutes.
- The service can only be provided at the medical facility indicated at the time of purchase. You need to arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment.
- The patient receives the result of the examination in the form of a medical impression together with a photo.
