What does a gynecologic oncologist do?

A gynecologic oncologist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive organs and breasts (both malignant and benign). An indication for consulting this specialist is the suspicion of oncological changes due to alarming symptoms, abnormal cytology results, etc.

Diseases within the scope of gynecologic oncology include, among others:

• uterine fibroids;
• endometrial polyps;
• peritubal cysts;
• cervical cancer;
• ovarian or fallopian tube cancer;
• endometrial cancer;
• vaginal cancer;
• vulvar cancer;
• breast cancer diseases.

Remember: Cancers detected early can be effectively cured. It is important to quickly respond to alarming symptoms and regularly perform examinations such as cytology, ultrasound of the reproductive organs, self-examination of the breasts, breast ultrasound, and mammography.

Scope of the visit

During the consultation, the gynecologic oncologist: 

• conducts a thorough interview, including on existing complaints, past diseases, and family history of cancer;
• reviews medical documentation and test results;
• makes diagnoses;
• provides medical advice;
• plans treatment, prescribes medications;
• refers for necessary tests;
• issues medical leave certificates.

Details of the visit and preparation

• A visit to a gynecologic oncologist does not require special preparation. You should bring with you an identity document and the results of tests relevant to the doctor, if they have been performed.
• The consultation lasts 20 minutes.
• Implementation of the service is possible only at the medical facility indicated during the purchase or through telemedicine.
