Preventive examinations (detection of diabetes and pre-diabetes) as well as check-ups in patients from risk groups and pregnant women are also indicated.
An increase in glucose concentration is observed in diabetes, pituitary and adrenal gland disorders, pancreatic diseases, in dialysis patients or during pregnancy.
A decrease in glucose levels occurs with an overdose of insulin, oral antidiabetic drugs, in hormonal hypofunction of the pituitary and adrenal glands, in congenital metabolic blocks and in toxic liver damage.
Previously diagnosed diabetes is a contraindication to the examination.
A few days before the test:
- Do not drink alcohol 2-3 days before the test.
- Refrain from drinking coffee and tea at least 12 hours before the collection.
- Eliminate the causes of stress as much as possible.
On the day of the examination:
- Remain fasting, that is, refrain from eating for about 12 hours before the examination.
- In the morning, drink water, a glass maximum.
- Blood for testing is taken in the morning.
- Unless otherwise instructed by your doctor, blood should be drawn before taking your morning dose of medication.
- Immediately before the collection, rest in a sitting position for 10-15 minutes.
- You must check in by 10:00 am.
In the case of improper preparation for the test, the obtained result will not be fully reliable.
