Glucose after 50g glucose – 2h measurement

The 50 g glucose tolerance test is performed 2 hours after glucose administration. Blood glucose level measurement is used in the diagnosis of diabetes.

Indications for glucose level testing include preventive and follow-up examinations in patients from risk groups. The glucose tolerance test is performed in pregnant women. Glucose concentration measurements are used in diagnosing and treating patients with carbohydrate metabolism disorders (diabetes, hypoglycemia in newborns, idiopathic hypoglycemia). Other indications include screening tests (for detecting diabetes and prediabetic conditions), as well as monitoring in at-risk patients and pregnant women.

An increase in glucose concentration is observed in diabetes, disorders of pituitary and adrenal gland function, pancreatic diseases, in dialysis patients, and during pregnancy.

A decrease in glucose level occurs in cases of insulin overdose, oral antidiabetic medication overdose, hormonal deficiency of the pituitary and adrenal glands, congenital metabolic blocks, and toxic liver damage.

A few days before the test

• Do not drink alcohol 2 – 3 days before the test.
• Refrain from drinking coffee and tea for at least 12 hours before downloading
• Eliminate the causes of stress as much as possible.

On the day of the test:

• Stay fasting, that is, abstain from eating for about 12 hours before the test.
• In the morning, drink water, a glass at most.
• Blood for the test is taken in the morning.
• Unless otherwise recommended by the doctor, blood should be drawn before taking your morning portion of medication.
• Rest in a seated position immediately before the collection 10-15 min.
• You should report for the test by 9:30 a.m.
