ECG Holter – 24 hours

When is the test performed?

The 24-hour Holter ECG is a non-invasive diagnostic method that allows you to assess the heart function at rest, as well as during daily activities. The test records abnormalities of heart rhythm and conduction, allows assessment of pacemaker function and detection of abnormalities related to myocardial blood supply.

Holter ECG is performed in cases of:

• certain congenital defects;
• cardiac arrhythmias;
• coronary artery disease;
• post-myocardial infarction conditions;
• assessment of heart rhythm after pacemaker implantation.

The test can be useful in patients with symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, fainting and chest pain.

What does the test look like?

The test begins by skimming the skin on the patient's chest and sticking three electrodes connected to a recording device in that area. The patient wears the device around the clock and keeps an activity diary, in which he or she records, among other things, the hours of medication taken, physical exertion, stressful events and discomforts experienced (such as palpitations).

The device is removed the next day at the same time. The result of the test is available after the doctor describes it (usually the waiting time is a few working days).

• You must arrive no later than 15 minutes before the appointment.
• Implementation of the service is possible only at the medical facility indicated during the purchase.
• You must attend the examination with an ID card.

Preparation for the examination

Men should remove hair from the chest to allow the electrodes to be glued. Other than that, the test requires no preparation from the patient. The nurse will instruct how to handle the recording device. Note that no bathing is allowed for 24 hours after inserting the device.
