Capillaroscopy is a non-invasive and painless diagnostic examination that allows for the assessment of the state of capillaries and, consequently, the diagnosis of abnormalities associated with microcirculation. It involves observing the capillaries through a transparent layer of skin under high magnification, achieved with a capillaroscope microscope.
The examination is performed within the nail folds of the fingers, at the border between the nail and the skin. If necessary, capillaroscopy can be repeated multiple times. Immediately after the examination, the patient receives a description of the findings.
Indications for performing the examination include:
- Diagnosis and assessment of the course and treatment of systemic connective tissue diseases (e.g., systemic sclerosis).
- Raynaud's phenomenon (pale, bluish, and then reddened skin of the fingers in response to cold).
- Evaluation of the health status of patients with diabetes, psoriasis, and peripheral vascular diseases.
- 3 weeks before the test, do not perform any cosmetic procedures on your hands, especially cutting the cuticles - the microdamage created during such procedures can falsify the capillaroscopic image.
- You should arrive at the facility about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. This is to allow the body to adjust to room temperature. This is especially important during the autumn and winter.
- 4 hours before the examination, do not smoke or drink coffee or strong tea.
