Adrenal Disease Package

The Adrenal Disease Package includes an abdominal ultrasound and a set of laboratory tests necessary for the diagnosis and prevention of adrenal diseases.

Scope of the Package:

Abdominal ultrasound-one of the more important tests for the diagnosis of internal diseases. It can be used to evaluate the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, aorta and other large blood vessels, as well as the retroperitoneal space.

Cortisol - serum- testing the level of cortisol in the blood colloquially known as the "stress hormone"- its ejection causes, among other things, an increase in glucose levels or blood pressure. Its abnormal level may indicate adrenal insufficiency or hyperactivity.

Adrenocorticotropic hormone-ACTH-is responsible for increasing the secretion of cortisol. Testing its level is very helpful in the diagnosis of adrenal hyperactivity and hypoactivity.

Dehydroepiandosterone sulfate - DHEA-S. It is a non-pyrogenic androgen used as a determinant of adrenal cortex mass, and a diagnostic parameter for precocious puberty.

Androstendione- a blood level test. Among other things, it is used to assess adrenal cortex disorders, diagnose polycystic ovary syndrome and hirsutism.

Free Testosterone (FTST)-a blood level test of the main sex hormone of men which is also found in small amounts in women.

17 - OH Progesterone- a blood level test of the hormone used in the differentiation of hirsutism, infertility and female pseudohermaphroditism.

Preparation for abdominal ultrasound:

The day before the examination, it is recommended to follow an easily digestible diet, excluding vegetables, fruits, dark bread, without carbonated and sweetened liquids (you can drink still water). In addition, taking Espumisan 3x2 tablets to remove air from the intestines.
You should report for the examination on an empty stomach-at least 6h hours without food or drink
On the day of the examination, do not smoke or chew gum.

For blood tests, report on an empty stomach in the morning to the chosen facility during the hours of operation of the Intake Point. 2-3 days before the test it is recommended to avoid alcohol and 12 hours before the test do not consume coffee or tea. If possible, it is advisable to perform the test before taking morning medication - unless otherwise advised by your doctor. In the morning, it is recommended to drink a glass of water and remain at rest for 10-15 minutes before the test. 

Testing of cortisol, ACTH, DHEAS levels- should be done around 8-9 am, fasting regardless of the day of the cycle
Testing of 17OH-Progesterone, Androstendione and FTST should be done in the morning, fasting between the 3rd and 5th day of the cycle
