Determining the concentration of inorganic phosphate in a urine sample after performing a daily urine collection, daily phosphorus excretion is helpful in differentiating the causes of hypophosphatemia.




Low phosphate concentrations can be caused by renal loss of phosphorus or impaired intestinal absorption of phosphorus.
