What is a Child & Teen Psychodietitian Consultation
A psychodietitian consultation is a meeting with a specialist who combines psychology and nutrition. It helps a child or teenager understand eating habits and emotions around food and sets a safe, simple plan for change. We support the whole family so that results are lasting and practical day to day.
Who it’s for
- for children and teens who eat too little or too much, snack often, have binge episodes, or show food selectivity,
- when there is stress, sadness, or tension linked to eating, body image, or weight,
- when regular meals are difficult (school, trainings, low appetite),
- when the family needs support to build healthy habits together,
- when a doctor recommends nutrition support (e.g., overweight, underweight, insulin resistance, gut issues) – as a complement to medical care.
How to prepare
- If possible, bring/send recent test results and a list of medications or supplements.
- For 2–3 days before the visit, note meal times and what was eaten, plus activity (a simple list is enough).
- Think about what already works well and what is most challenging – this helps set the goal.
- A legal guardian accompanies the child to the visit. Both parents/guardians may attend.
- For online visits, ensure a quiet space and a stable connection.
What happens during the consultation
- Introductory talk: the specialist learns about the child’s situation, daily rhythm, preferences, challenges, and the family’s expectations.
- Habit review: discussion of food notes, emotions around eating, and context (school, home, peers, sports).
- Action plan: simple, measurable steps tailored to age – no strict rules, no pressure, with focus on wellbeing.
- Guidance for parents: how to support the child at home and talk about food and body in a supportive way.
- Next steps: possible tests, medical or psychological consultations, and a follow-up appointment.
Additional information
- A psychodietitian consultation does not replace a medical diagnosis – we cooperate with physicians and psychologists when needed.
- If urgent warning signs appear (e.g., rapid weight loss, fainting, self-harm thoughts), contact a doctor or emergency number immediately.
- Changes are introduced gradually and without judgment – the child’s comfort and practicality of recommendations come first.
- Please review our center’s terms and visit cancellation policy before your appointment.
