What is Wrist MRI without Contrast

Wrist MRI without contrast is a safe and non-invasive diagnostic test that allows detailed imaging of the tissues in the wrist area. During the examination, a magnetic field and radio waves are used to obtain clear images that help diagnose injuries, inflammatory conditions, or degenerative changes in this part of the body.

For Whom

Wrist MRI without contrast is recommended for people experiencing pain, swelling, or limited mobility in the wrist. It can also be used to diagnose sports injuries, arthritis, degenerative changes, and other problems related to this area. The test is also indicated in cases where it is difficult to make a diagnosis based on other imaging methods.

How to Prepare for the Examination

• It is advisable to bring any previous test results, such as X-rays, CT scans, or other examinations that may be helpful in diagnosing.
• Before the examination, remove jewelry and any metal objects, and avoid wearing clothing with metal elements.
• If the patient has implants - limb/joint endoprostheses, hearing implants, vascular ports, or any other foreign bodies resulting from medical procedures, the patient MUST provide a certificate confirming there are no contraindications for the MRI examination. This certificate must be issued by the healthcare provider where the implant was performed and/or the manufacturer of the implant/device. If such a certificate is not available, the technician has the right to refuse to perform the examination.
• A referral is not required for the examination.

How the Examination is Performed

• Arrive about 30 minutes before the scheduled examination time for registration and completion of medical documentation. Patients should go directly to the Reception at the Radiology Department.
• Pregnant patients should inform the staff about their condition.
• The examination should be performed in comfortable clothing without metal elements. Before entering the examination room, remove wallets with credit cards, phones, jewelry, belts, etc. There is a locked locker where the patient can leave personal items.
• For head and orbital examinations, makeup or hairspray should not be used as cosmetics may contain metal particles that distort the results.
• During the examination, it is important to remain still.
• The patient remains in constant contact with the medical staff through a microphone.
• The examination lasts approximately 40 minutes.
• Immediately after the examination, you can take medications and drive a vehicle.
  Regular medications should be taken according to the prescribing doctor's instructions.
