What is trichoscopy?
Trichoscopy is a modern technique for examining the scalp and hair. It is carried out using specialized equipment - a videodermatoscope, which allows to see the skin in up to 70 times magnification on a monitor screen. This method allows a detailed analysis of skin structures at the level of the epidermis, the dermal-epidermal border and the upper layers of the dermis and hair.
Indications for trichoscopy:
- excessive hair loss, high hair breakage;
- slowed hair growth;
- alopecia areata;
- dandruff, red spots, seborrhea, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis.
The examination is performed by a dermatologist. It lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Benefits
Why perform the examination?
- Trichoscopy allows a comprehensive evaluation of the scalp and hair structure, thus identifying the cause of the problem. It also facilitates the selection of an effective treatment method.
- The examination is non-invasive and completely painless. There are no contraindications to its performance. It can also be used in children and pregnant women.
- The examination can be repeated several times, for example, to monitor the effects of treatment.
- No skin or hair samples need to be taken to perform the test. It is also not necessary to shave the scalp.
- The test has no effect on the patient's skin. It does not cause irritation or inflammation.
Trichoscopy does not require any special preparation on the part of the patient. It is sufficient to wash the hair 24-72 hours before the examination. No hair masks, conditioners or hair rubs should be used before the test. Approximately 2 weeks before the test, do not color the hair or perform any other treatments that would affect the scalp.
