Ultrasound of axillary lymph nodes

The scan may be recommended in the case of enlarged or painful lymph nodes or skin lesions in the area of axillary lymph nodes.

The ultrasound may be helpful in diagnosing bacterial or viral infections, but also neoplasms (leukaemia, lymphoma).

The scan does not require any special preparation. If the patient has medical records (previously performed ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI scans or hospital discharge summaries), they should be brought for the appointment.
