Duplex Doppler ultrasound of the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries is used to assess the morphology, flow of the aorta and iliac arteries.
Duplex Doppler ultrasound of the aorta and iliac arteries is performed when aortic aneurysm and atherosclerotic changes are suspected, and to monitor the progression of changes and the effects of invasive treatment of aortic aneurysms or Leriche's syndrome.
Doppler ultrasound, using the Doppler phenomenon, allows to assess the speed and direction of blood flow in the vessels. Ultrasonic waves falling on blood cells flowing in blood vessels change their frequency in proportion to the speed of blood flow.
