Ultrasound of the elbow joint
The anatomical structures around the elbow joint are relatively superficial, which makes ultrasound an excellent diagnostic method for common injuries in this joint. Ultrasound examination enables the diagnosis of overload changes such as tennis elbow and golfer's elbow. It also works great in the case of post-traumatic changes, especially in the case of tearing tendon and ligament attachments to bone structures. It allows for the initial diagnosis of degenerative changes in the joint, reveals exudate in the joint and bursae surrounding the joint. Focal neuropathies, such as ulnar nerve canal syndrome, are also common in the area of the elbow joint. Thanks to the dynamic assessment of the nerves in real time, ultrasonography allows to visualize their morphology and possible instability.
